Blogging Stocks - Fifteen ETF Picks for 2009 from various newsletter advisors - S&P China SPDR(GXC), iShares MSCI Emerging Markets(EEM), Wisdom Tree Emerging Market Small Cap(DGS), Wisdom Tree International Small Cap Dividend(DLS), Consumer Staples ETF(XLP), PowerShares Value Line Industry Rotation ETF(PYH), PowerSharesDB Crude(DXO), ProShares Ultra Oil & Gas(DIG), SPDR Gold Trust(GLD) this is the most popular choice in this year's survey, PowerShares DB Gold Double Long(DGP), Market Vectors Gold Miners(GDX), ProShares Ultra Gold(UGL), ProShares Trust Short Financials(SEF), ProShares UltraShort Financials(SKF).
Street - Fast Money likes United States Oil(USO), Freeport McMoRan(FCE), Intel(INTC), Microsoft(MSFT), Johnson & Johnson(JNJ), Google(GOOG), ConocoPhillips(COP).
Week Summary - This week was all about the anticipation of Obama's stimulus plan. There are dozens of stocks that could benefit from the infrastructure build-up, an ETF like (FLM) or (IGF) is probably the easiest way to go without doing extensive research on each company. Health care stands to benefit also, with (GILD) and (CELG) being the most popular choices for biotech. I also like the generic drug stocks like (TEVA), and electronic medical records like (MDRX). As far as alternative energy goes an ETF is also easier here. There is continued pessimism about retail and banks, I would just stay away for now, even shorting the sector is risky because the government could pump in more money to the banks at any time elevating the stocks. China sounds good to me, there are several good ETF's to pick from, (FXI), (GXC). Other individual stocks to look at, (MCD), (AAPL), (DV), (XOM), (CVX), and Gold (GLD) and (GDX).

It is about modernizing our roads, bridges; education for the 21st century. $90 billion for traditional infrastructure projects such as road and bridge repair and construction, modernizing federal building, clean water and flood control projects, and rail and mass transit construction. Pelosi seems proudest of the measure's investments in renewable energy and science, including $32 billion to upgrade the nation's electrical distribution system, more than $20 billion in tax cuts to promote the development of alternatives to oil, and billions more to make public housing, federal buildings and modest-income homes more energy efficient. TheStockAdvisors - Emerging Markets(EEM), Apollo(APOL), France Telcom(FTE).
Investment U - Time to buy China, could do ETF like iShares FTSE/Xinhua China 25 Index ETF, or stocks like E-House Holdings(EJ), China Security and Surveillance(CSR), or Power Energy Generation Systems(APWR), China Mobile Ltd.(CML).
IBD - Thoratec(THOR) makes cardiovascular equipment, it only has a ROE of 5%, you usually want to see a minimum of 17%, but things are looking up, (THOR) is ranked 2nd amoung 117 stocks in this industry only behind Immucor(BLUD).

Tue Jan 13th daily stock tracking

Procter & Gamble(PG), Johnson & Johnson(JNJ) and Hewlett-Packard(HPQ) are my favorite DOW stocks, stable with a good dividend. Stocks that I think are a good value and will grow are Potash (POT) and Terra Nitrogen (THN) for agriculture, Transocean (RIG) for oil recovery, Fluor (FLR) and Catapillar (CAT) for infrastructure, McDonald's (MCD) will continue to dominate with cheap food and expansion into China, Pepsi (PEP) as a strong consumer brand, Google (GOOG) as the strongest high-tech with a ton of cash, and PetMed Express(PETS) should continue to do well as spending money on pets is a priority for most people. Also, Wall-Mart (WMT) is the best retailer and its share price may dip down because of poor retail spending numbers, scoop it up on dips.

Proctor & Gamble(PG) is one of the absolute favorites, target to upper $60s, great management team, best dividend-paying stock. verizon(VZ) and AT&T(T) should do well. (GE) will be good when the economy recovers. Wall-Mart(WMT) will trade to $63 as it demolishes the competition in 2009. (JNJ) is also a good pick. Fast Money final trades are Potash(POT) and CSX(CSX). Upgrades - Becton Dickinson(BDX) target $81, Consolidated Edison(ED) target $42, Raytheon(RTN) target $57, Shaw Group(SGR) target $28, Apollo(APOL) target $95, Celgene(CELG) target $73. Bull - Home Depot(HD) and Low's(LOW), Molson Coors(TAP), Shaw Group(SGR), Kraft(KFT), Quanta Services(PWR), Anadarko Petroleum(APC), and (MCD).
thestockadvisors - Fluor(FLR) is a top pick for 2009. American Water Works(AWK) is a top utility sector pick, buy up to $23. Intuit(INTU)top value pick, but at $21 and below. Transocean(RIG) is a favorite for 2009 and is selling for just 3.8x consensus 2009 earnings.
Zacks - Growth & Income stock recommendation is McDonalds(MCD), its ROE of 29% nearly triples the industry average of 10%, its net profit margin of 19% is way above the industry average of 2%.
Investment U - Coal will dominate the energy needs of the world. The best recommendations are Market Vectors Coal ETF(KOL) as the safest direct coal play, Arch Coal(ACI), Peabody Energy(BTU), Bucyrus International(BUCY), Joy Global(JOYG), and Yanzhou Coal Mining Company(YZC).

Investopedia - 5 Low P/E Stock Picks. Abercrombie & Fitch(ANF) P/E 7.02, American Express(AXP) P/E 9.23, Corn Products(CPO) P/E 8.65, Deere & Co(DE) P/E 8.38, OfficeMax(OMX) P/E 9.43.
The Motley Fool - Large-cap value stocks could be the best this year. Google(GOOG) is trading at about 19x earnings, it has a huge moat from competition, $14 billion in cash, and an estimated 21% annual growth rate going forward. If the economy gets worse in 2009 this stock will survive, if the economy recovers big reward.
Street - Cramer had a nice article about Sears(SHLD) not being as all the negative press its been getting, they have plently of cash to buy back shares, and are looking to close less profitable stores. With the eventual retail recovery they will be well positioned. He also recommended Trinity(TRN), Quanta Services(PWR), Owens Corning(OC), and Caterpillar(CAT), but (CAT) has run up too high, wait for a pull-back to $40 before buying. Bull on - dryships(DRYS), HJ Heinz(HNZ), and Mas Tec(MTZ). Upgrades - Lennar(LEN), Urban Outfitters(URBN), Mylan(MYL) target $13. Walmart lowered guidance and Costco's profits are down 4%, even the "best" retailers are getting hurt. Health care update - Intuitive Surgical(ISRG) announced weaker than expected earnings due to hospital spending cuts, shares fell to $99.75, the lowest point in two years. Hologic(HOLX)fell to $11.43, but still maintained a "buy" rating, and Varian(VAR) fell to $30.04 its lowest in five years and target was lowered to $39. Another positive mention of Fluor(FLR) this seems to be a favorite infrastructure play
TheStockAdvisors - Fast food favorites, (MCD) is the strongest with a good dividend and expansion plans into China, (YUM) and (BKC) are also worth looking at.
Investment U - recommends First Trust/FIDAC Mortgage Income Fund(FMY), this fund holds "good" mortgage-backed securities, and pays an 8% dividend while you wait for the housing market to recover which will send the shares higher.

Week of Dec 29th-Jan 4th, 2009 daily stock tracking

Week Summary - The continued themes for the week are Obama's infrastructure build-up along with several countries around the world using the same idea to stimulate their economy through job creation, also spending on health-care research and development and big-pharm as a safe place to invest, and finally the eventual re-bound in first energy and second home-building. The easiest way to play infrastructure is through an etf like (FLM)first trust global engineering and construction or (PKB)power shares building and construction. I like (FLM) better because its global, has more major construction infrastructure type companies, and a much cheaper expense ratio. (PKB) has more US companies but has big holdings in (HD) and (LOW)that are primarly home repair, it is also more expensive. For the re-bound in oil I like (XOM)and(CVX), for more variety try (DIG)its an etf whose top holdings are XOM-35%, CVX-13%, COP-6%, SLB-5%, etc, it has more oil service and drilling companies that may take a while longer to recover, but should do so. For retail stick with (WMT), food I like and own(MCD), health/pharm I like and own(GILD)they have a speciality for HIV drugs, (CELG)is advanced in cancer research. Other likes, (PAGG)an agriculture etf with companies like (POT)(MOS)(AGU)etc, should do well with commodities rebound and continued world-wide demand for food.
